This week's crucial Ashes Test match between England and Australia will be the first opportunity for thousands of spectators and viewers alike to enjoy the benefits of the newly designed iconic OCS Stand at the Brit Oval, which was concept designed by HOK Sport. The new design will bring thousands of cricket fans closer to the action than ever before adding further to the nail-biting atmosphere.
Concept designed by HOK Sport and construction designed by Miller Partnership, the Brit Oval has been transformed into an elegant 23,000 seat venue for the Surrey County Cricket Club. The dramatic sweeping form of the new stand and roof is instantly recognisable as the Brit Oval.
Paul Sheldon, Chief Executive of Surrey County Cricket Club, has expressed his delight over the redevelopment. “All of us here at the Brit Oval are thrilled with the new OCS Stand and its iconic structure, providing a fitting venue for the most important test match than most of us can remember. Let’s hope England can snatch the Ashes at this fantastic venue.”
John Barrow, HOK Sport, describing the design said, “The new OCS Stand and roof are truly iconic, elegantly harmonizing with the imposing Victorian appearance of the Pavilion. The dramatic sweeping form of the new roof has also been composed to act as a foil to the gasometers which have historically formed the backdrop at this end.”

A ‘Living Wall’ has also been designed, which will support a variety of climbing plants adding to the summer ambience of the external concourse, bringing the seasons into the urban fabric of the area. The tapering timber louver screen will also help to restrict overlooking from the stand of the adjacent residential accommodation and help to dissipate the traffic noise from the main road.
