Date: June 8th 2006 Project: TCF Bank Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota today announced it has selected HOK Sport to design its new $248 million, on-campus football stadium. TCF Bank Stadium is the largest project financially in collegiate sports facility history.

“TCF Bank Stadium will be just the sixth 50,000 seat, on-campus stadium to be built in the last 50 years,” said Scott Radecic, HOK Sport senior principal. “These projects don’t come along often, and for HOK Sport to be selected to work with the University of Minnesota on the largest collegiate football project demonstrates our continued commitment to collegiate sports facility design.”

Radecic, a former Penn State linebacker and 12-year veteran of the NFL, will lead HOK Sport’s work on the project. HOK Sport will collaborate with Minneapolis firms Architectural Alliance and Studio Hive to design the stadium. The three firms will begin work on the stadium immediately to accommodate a fall 2009 opening.

“People often associate HOK Sport with our large scale, professional stadiums,” said Radecic. “But for 18 of our firm’s 23 years, we also have been designing collegiate athletic facilities for more than 120 colleges and universities.”

HOK Sport’s collegiate football portfolio includes projects at Penn State University; Virginia Tech; Georgia Tech; the University of Florida; the University of Alabama; the University of Oklahoma; the University of Kansas; Kansas State University; and the University of Missouri. Currently the firm is designing improvements to football stadiums at the University of Washington, Washington State University and Arizona State University.

"We believe HOK Sport is an ideal firm to help create a facility that renews our Big 10 football traditions and meshes with the campus and our neighborhoods," University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks said. “We're excited to have them on board to help build the first new stadium in our conference in nearly 50 years."
