The team appointed to the design of the multi-sport Stadium, which forms part of the Maze / Long Kesh site, includes leading sport and entertainment architects HOK Sport. The team's combined portfolio includes the award-winning Odyssey Arena in Belfast and the Emirates Stadium in London.
Speaking at a press conference today, David Hanson, Sports Minister for Northern Ireland, said "this impressive consortium has an established reputation for stadia and it has a mouth watering back catalogue of credits."
The unique design will incorporate rugby, football and Gaelic sports and will provide a landmark venue for Northern Ireland and an asset for the local community.
John Barrow, Senior Principal at HOK Sport spoke of the design intent "our ideas are at a very early stage, but our vision is for a world class stadium for world class supporters — the people of Northern Ireland. This will be a stadium where every seat in the house is the best seat, and one which will be an exemplar for comfort, safety, accessibility and sustainability."
