The Estadio da Luz, one of the most prestigious facilities designed for the Euro 2004 Championships, blends harmoniously into its landscape, surrounded by a site which holds an extraordinary place in the public imagination. The scheme comprises a football stadium with integral museum, health and fitness club and themed restaurant areas - bringing life to the area throughout the week.
The elegant sweeping form of the arches was instrumental in the creation of a visible landmark and individual identity for the stadium. When the arches meet in the corners, the result is a soaring eagle - the motto for the multifarious sporting institution, the Lisbon and Benfica Sporting Club.
