Royal Randwick Racecourse is one of the oldest and best known racecourses in Australia. HOK Sport was commissioned by the Australian Jockey Club (AJC) to undertake a masterplan, to meet the changing trends in customer requirements and age groups. The AUS $35M master plan included alterations to site configurations and possible new members' grandstand.
The existing facilities are historically important and therefore there were many heritage issues which needed to be addressed. The challenge was to integrate the old with a new plan and structure which would give the AJC a clear lead in the industry and provide a model for other racecourses to follow.
