In 1988, after occupying a city centre site for more than 90 years, Royal Selangor Turf Club, decided to move out of the city to a more spacious site.

The new racecourse, designed in association with local firm TR Hamzah & Yeang, was designed to maximize the flexibility of events and the grandstand orientated to allow for best views. A dedicated attention to detail and design enabled the architects to achieve cohesion between the grandstand building and 26 additional separate buildings. The facility splits into two linear buildings, linked by bridges across a spectacular atrium allowing views of the parade ring and the racecourse. The result is uncompromisingly modern architecture that blends well with the spectacular surrounding landscape.
