The Kohl Center was designed as a basketball-focused facility, but can be configured for hockey and is flexible enough for a wide range of events. The arena's unique, cantilevered balconies provide an intimate atmosphere for both basketball and ice hockey crowds. With the flip of a switch, 750 seats on one end of the seating bowl adjust from basketball sightlines to hockey sightlines within six minutes. The entry to Kohl Center gleams with elaborate, blown glass artwork on the “Mendota Wall.” Created by internationally-renowned glass artist and UW alumnus Dale Chihuly, the montage recalls the colors and shapes of Madison's Lake Mendota.
