Sustainable Design

- The roof and the roof fabric are designed to maximize air flow to encourage passive cooling of spectators during day matches. The PTFE roof fabric was chosen because it reflects the Gold Coast feel and climate with its strong light, breeze and general air of informality and recreation.
The Teflon based material is also 'self cleaning', minimizing the need for water and resources. It should self clean for up to 10 years.
- On the north side of the stadium, water is captured from four bays and is used to help with pitch irrigation, flushing of toilets, and general cleaning.
- The sports lighting on the leading edge of the roof structure is efficient, meaning minimum energy loss and ensuring that the stadium is a "good neighbour" with limited light spill to the surrounding area.
- All four concourses are open in some ways to the natural elements minimizing the need for lighting and mechanical ventilation during day matches.
- The Eastern Plaza and related landscaping provides civic space for the precinct as a whole, contributing to the sustainability of the building as a civic landmark and providing a gathering place for the local community not only on event days.
